As the time is passing by, things are getting more and more sophisticated. Same advancements can be witnessed in case of motorcycles. Today, you can easily find some of the most sophisticated and spectacular motorcycles in the world around you. However, things were never this attractive in past. To get a complete idea, you will have to go through the history of motorcycles.

History of Motorcycle

History of motorcycle is full of glory. Motorcycles have really been under constant evolution since its first introduction in 1867. However, those early motorcycles which were invented by an American, Sylvester Howard Roper, hit the world with two cylinders. These motorcycles were having steam-engine and coal was used to provide the power. This can really be considered as first motorcycle.

However, there are people who believe that it should be consider a motorcycle because of the having steam-engine. That’s exactly the point where Gottlieb Daimler stepped in and invented a motorcycle with a gas-engine. This was actually a wooden bike which was introduced in 1885. Here, it is pertinent to mention that Daimler, before inventing the wooden motorcycle, was serving an inventor, Nicholaus Otto, as an assistant.

The name of Nicholaus Otto is worth mentioning not only because he invented the Otto cycle, but, also because he invented the first "Four-Stroke Internal-Combustion Engine". 1876 was the memorable year when the first "Four-Stroke Internal-Combustion Engine" hit the world. Otto built it for cycle and actually gave it the name “Otto Cycle Engine”. However, it was Daimler who used it for motorcycle. Because of petroleum-powered engine, this is considered to be the first motorcycle.

After the introduction of the first motorcycle, there were lots of companies who tried to design their own motorcycles with different designs and different engine power. “Indian” is a worth mentioning name in this regard as the company was considered the best, but, that lasted only until the First World War. In 1920, there was a new name that really jolted the world with its terrific designs and still going strong. There is no prize for guessing the name as it was none other than Harley-Davidson.

History of Harley-Davidson

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company was launched in 1903 by William Harley with Arthur and Walter Davidson. In the year 1907, Harley-Davidson introduced the V-twin bike for the very first time. Before this, there were motorcycles with only single-cylinder models. 1907 was the same year when they expanded their company and manufacturing to 150 motorcycles. Since then, the company never looked back until today when Harley-Davidson is offering some of the most stylishly designed motorcycles with some of the most powerful engines.

Harley-Davidson has played a great role in introducing the new designs of motorcycles. Today, there are all sorts of accessories as well which are helping people to create a special style statement.
