Walls are an important aspect of interior designing. Placing some artistic object creates the ambiance in a room. In fact, a good part of interior decoration consists of making appropriate use of walls and making them a integral feature of the total picture.
Walls not only circumscribe a room, they also define it. Using them for decoration is nothing new. Many world-renowned buildings have their walls painted. Putting some painting on the Wall is a general practice. One can change and create a new look of a room by placing wall pictures in certain ways cleverly. In interior designing wall pictures can play many roles. They include:
- Objects like mirrors, pictures and other ornamental accessories usually help to make the room look ‘lived in’ and also inject our personality into the room.
- The pictures in the walls absorb the noise in a room, and help us to get rid of echo.
- The different colour pictures and prints connect with the rooms’ accent.
- Some beautiful pictures and prints help to enhance to change the room’s ‘look and feel’.
- A big mirror on a wall creates an optical illusion of making the room bigger than it actually is.
Some other ways “to lengthen” a room are also common. One can easily gain the illusion of length in a small room. Firstly a couple of horizontal lines need to be painted in bold colour across the middle of the wall. An illusion of increased length of the room is naturally created by these lines. Another way to do this is by using pictures or photographs having any kind of strong horizontal line in the print.
Some long rectangular pictures like ocean, beaches, fields or mountain range also help to extend the length of the room. The subject matter of these pictures should also be such that justifies extra length, compared to the width. An ocean beach or a highway is very appropriate for this purpose. The sky-line of a metropolitan centre can also serve the purpose.
Thus Art pictures and prints usually play an important role for decorating a home. They not only act as a solution to change the look of a room but also influence the environment of the room.
The original paintings of good artists are so costly that a common man can not dream of buying one. But any number of good pictures and natural sceneries are available in the market. Besides, one can buy attractive wall-hangings. Their use adds an extra dimension to a room. Using some painting or hanging breaks the monotony of a wall. If the object is real big it gives a sort of identity to the wall and improves the atmosphere of the room.
However, proper care needs to be exercised when selecting some painting or hanging. Its colour should harmonise well with the colour of the wall and the colour-scheme of the room. It should not look misfit either colour-wise or shape-wise and should add to the feeling of environment of that particular room.
